Benjamin Franklin on learning - Bitcoin Junior Club

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790): The pioneer of self-directed education. He only went to school for a few years as a small child. After that, he was basically homeschooled by life.

  • One of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
  • Writer, scientist, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher and political philosopher.

Plutarch (~40 CE – 120 CE): He is an ancient master of learning from real-life examples; through the stories of others, deep thinking and strong character.

  • Greek Middle Platonist philosopher.
  • Historian, biographer, storyteller, educator, essayist/writer.

Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955): An ambassador of imagination over rote learning. His genius was fueled by his own relentless curiosity, not by a formal classroom.

  • Revolutionary physicist ( the theory of relativity, which completely changed our understanding of space, time, and the universe).
  • Brilliant thinker, philosopher, educator.  

Robert Frost (1874-1963): An advocate for learning from life, not just lecture halls. In one of his pieces, "The Most of It," he explores how we only understand the world through its echoes, responses, and relationships to us—never by knowing a thing purely 'in itself.'

  • Resepcted American poet (four-time Pulitzer Prize winner).
  • Farmer and thinker who believed wisdom comes from direct experience.

William Butler Yeats (1865-1939): His life and work championed the pursuit of a unique, personal inner knowledge over standardized learning.

  • Nobel Prize-winning Irish poet and dramatist.
  • Dedicated mystic, visionary, educator, who built his own system of symbols and philosophy.
